You know, we can be our worst enemies sometimes. Like tying your shoelaces together and then expecting to walk steadily, obviously you will trip.
My blog today will be an extension of last week’s blog titled “Self sabotage”. I’m drawn to the story of a valiant army commander known as Naaman. Now Naaman had a serious skin condition known as Leprosy, this condition disfigures one’s skin and it was known to be contagious so anyone who had it was avoided, it was honestly a pitiful illness. So Naaman was told about a prophet in Israel that could heal him, immediately he told his King and a letter was written to the Israeli King requesting him to help Naaman. The King who was obviously the wrong recipient of the letter was distressed immediately after reading it, but Elisha the Prophet heard of the King’s distress and requested they send Naaman to him.
Upon his arrival, Elisha sent a word out to Naaman that he should dip himself in the Jordan River seven times.
Outraged at the simplicity of this task, Naaman turned back but he was convinced by his servant to do as the prophet instructed. Naaman like most of us had a hard time comprehending that this illness that has tortured and stigmatized him for so long could just be removed by seven simple dips in a basic river. We too are also left baffled when church, counselors, bloggers just tell us to lay our burdens to Christ by simply praying and changing our mindsets. I mean “how can something so simple remove years of heartache, a taxing disease on my body, the many thoughts in my mind, how?”
The Power is not on the how but rather who. The prayer is directed to God, He hears our prayers through His son Jesus Christ. Just like how God healed Naaman with those seven dips in the river, how much more when you have been given access to Him.
"Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." Hebrews 4:16
We have to accustom ourselves with the truth, that with God the way out is the easy way out. But when pride is in the picture it actually appears like the hard way out.
Now after convincing, Naaman finally went to claim his healing in the Jordan River. If Naaman was alone, he would have up and left and wallowed in his illness for God knows how long. But thank God for him he had a servant to help him put the pride aside and partake in the simple task.
I’m going to close this blog with its title, Do u really want to get over your self? Please read this blog intently and also Naaman’s full story on 2 Kings Chapter 5.
