People will…

People will

Fight for you, lift you up, help you get through the toughest moments of your life, provide a shoulder to cry on and and and…

People will also

Leave you high and dry, throw you under the bus, abandon you, make you the butt of every joke, bully you, hurt you and and and…

I’ve had a fair share of “people will” experiences in my life. I’ve also noticed how the negative things people do to you actually stick the longest by lingering in your thoughts longer than they should. We tend to hold some people in our lives in high regard and when they act out of character,  especially towards us we take it personal and we get hurt.

I’ve had interesting experiences in my life where I’ve had people going exceedingly beyond my expectations in ensuring I’m okay (people I know and strangers alike). On the flip side I’ve had people I hold a cordial or friendly relationships with deliberately throw me under the bus.

I’ve had people look at me straight in the eye and say “it wasn’t me” when it actually was them and all evidence pointed to them. Needless to say, People will people! So it is therefore very important for us to not live our lives based on people’s perceptions of us and/or how they threat us.

You will recall from my first blog post that I don’t fit in. In my childhood, teenage years and a bit into my twenties, other people’s perception of myself ruled me. Unfortunately in the dark days we live in, you find a lot of people falling into depression, experiencing heightened anxiety and suicidal thoughts due to people.

One thing I’ve noticed is that people are not inherently nice, the Bible says it as well. Galatians 5 verses 19-21 speak of the fruits of the flesh (to mention a few) are hatred, jealousy and envy. But it is through the holy spirit that we are able to produce the fruit of the spirit which are namely love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control Galatians 5 verses 22-23.

Therefore if a person is negative towards you, they are yet to allow the Lord to work in them, what you can do for yourself is control how you receive their actions and by being kind to yourself.

Yes, our lives are people centered but we have been given the strength to ensure that how they treat us does not dictate how we look at ourselves. Once again, true to what keeps me going every single day “My identity is in Christ”, it is through that powerful truth that I keep sane. People are fickle but if we hold on to the Lord who is faithful and does not change like a shifting shadows (James 1:17), life my friend will be a whole lot more enjoyable, as it should be because God wants us to enjoy it, amongst other things๐Ÿคญ.

Till next Tuesday, just keep breathing!

  1. What matters the most is one’s relationship with the creator, the God who looks beyond our flaws, the Jehovah who rejoices upon the salvation of just one of mankind.
