A capability worth unlocking!

"looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." Hebrews 12:2 NIV

Now, we all know Jesus was given to us by the Lord to come and save us from sin by being a living sacrifice. However Jesus had to do all that with the limitation of still being a human.

There’s a significance to why Jesus was like both you and I. Yes, it was to show us that righteous living is possible in our earthly form but it was also to show us that Jesus too went through human emotions and hardships.

Let’s zone in on the verse quoted above, I just want us to focus on one key noun here, which is “endurance”. Cambridge dictionary defines endurance as the ability to keep doing something difficult, unpleasant, or painful for a long time.

But honestly speaking, who wants to endure anything? I know i don’t, but not wanting something does not mean you may be exempt from it.

Unfair situations are bound to happen…consecutive unfair situations may also occur but we have been knitted nicely in the likeliness of God with many capabilities within us that are at a risk of dormancy if we do not activate them.

One of those capabilities is endurance. The Word of God has countless stories of enduring and finally overcoming. These stories are to help us see that we are not the first to go through hard times and we most certainly aren’t the last. We have; King David losing his child, Joseph being sold to the slaves, Elijah running for his life from Jezebel to the point where he contemplated suicide, Samson being captured and blinded, Job losing everything and anything. These are a few stories but they all have happy endings, why shouldn’t yours as a child of God?

In closing, the fact that you went through something and had a happy ending doesn’t mean you won’t be faced with difficulties again as soon as tomorrow. Therefore, when you encounter unfortunate scenarios and set back after set back, don’t be dismayed but rather press on.

Endurance is a mindset. Remember, you endure for the purpose of overcoming. With just that mindset, you are well on your way in practicing endurance.

This might be a bubblegum read but there is truth and sustenance in simplicity and at times God’s word is what it is, no hidden meanings, just simple teachings on how to ensure you live the best life He has destined for you.
